Northwestern University

Northwestern Now

A full redesign of Northwestern Now, Northwestern’s news website

Project Overview: The goal of the project was to completely redesign Northwestern’s main news website. With a reach of over 9,000 undergraduates and more than 14,000 graduate students as well as faculty, staff, alumni and international partners and news outlets, it was important to keep the site clean and easy to navigate while allowing the media team to adapt the site to the rapid changes in news cycle.

My Role: Senior Web Designer responsible for design discovery, design comps, layout and typography, internal and management presentations, developer collaboration, and design QC

In collaboration with the team’s researcher and content specialist, as well as the managing editor of internal communications, we came up with a design that utilizes the taxonomy that already existed as a way to organize the site. This allowed great flexibility for the media relations team to highlight the topics that were most relevant while keeping the site clean for viewers. This tested very well with users and site editors.

150 Years of Women at Northwestern

Designing a new feature for a commemorative site

Project Overview: Design a new site celebrating the history and careers of women at Northwestern University and extending the pattern library to include a new filterable feature.

My Role: Senior Web Designer responsible for design discovery, design comps, internal and management presentations, developer collaboration, and design QC

This project included extending and expanding the client’s pattern library to be more flexible and scalable. Ultimately, we delivered a new hero component that maximized the space, a flexible grid icon component and a modular news section component.
